"GROCIOUS” IS THE NAME OF A FICTIONAL DRAGON SLAYER WHO RISES FROM THE BURNT ASHES OF A VILLAGE TO GO AND KILL THE DRAGON THAT DESTROYED HIS TOWN. THE MELODIES AND LYRICS WERE ALL MY IDEA AND THE MUSIC WAS PUT TOGETHER BY WES AND MORRIS. WES WAS A BIG PART OF A LOT OF THESE SONGS. HE WOULD BRING OUT A RIFF AND IF YOU DIDN’T LIKE IT, HE WOULD BRING OUT ANOTHER ONE. HE HAD A POCKET FULL OF IDEAS. MY SON, BRYAN, HAD AN IMAGINARY FRIEND WHEN HE WAS LITTLE WHO HE CALLED GROCIOUS AND IT STUCK WITH ME YEARS LATER WHEN WE WROTE THIS SONG.
lyrics
One cold December morning not far away
A bell rang out the warning
The sky turned to grey
A beast with wings and fire was now in sight
Came hunting for his victims
An unholy flight
The same thing every winter
Been cursed for years
Tormented through the ages
So many tears
What man will have the courage to end the reign
Of the monster from above who brings us pain
Then out of the ashes a hero he did rise
He looked at the creature with no fear in his eyes
He faced his destiny on that fateful day
Then drew his mighty sword
This dragon he must slay
The battle raged for hours neither one would break
They fought with awesome fury
So much at stake
Then one blow from the hero burned out the flame
The people of the village would praise his name
Grocious

Genau das, was ich hören will!
A churning, smoky, and doomed affair. Gone is much of the adventurous, sword-and-sorcery battle hymn of Forever Black and earlier; this is a trudging march of grim and dark resolve. A well-chosen album name. This was a different direction than I expected, so I will have to screw my head on right to give it a re-listen, but I think it will please even more. Many of the melodies take shadowy turns of half-tone tension, evoking the dire fate hanging overhead as mighty heavy lyrics damn you. pinkytheent
